I have an issue on my oracle server where someone or something keeps on starting a duplicate oracle10 listener, as you can imagine this is rather annoying. It seems to happen in the middle of the night. Any advice on tracking down what is going on would be great!

All the users who have oracle access are UK based and always deny starting the duplicate.

Yes,

lock down the server! Users should not have direct access to it in the first place. Sure, they can have database connections, but allowing them such priviileges on the server itself is asking for trouble.

This seems to be a security/whodunnit problem. Reduce the list of suspects by preventing the world and his wife from gaining access.

Regards

T

This may seem far-fetched, but RH Linux executing on Virtual Machine (VM) will sometimes under certain conditions spawn a second listener and you won't know it until something stops.

This is a known bug, check Metalink. [3eyes]

PS: A comrade just confirmed that this bug also may occur on non VM servers when the server is re-started and you have automatic startup configured for Oracle.

John, from my personal experience, your thought should read:
