Hi, I am trying to deinstall oracle 9i as it is taking up too much space, and affecting my other applications. However, when I run installer and want to click on the remove button this button is not activated, so is not allowing me to remove the product from my PC. I am pretty desperate now.

Please help anyone as soon as pos. Please keep any replies simple.

Hi dorothy,

did you install a database too?

If so, please start the
START>PROGRAMS>ORACLE HOME>DATABASE ADMINISTRATION>DATABASE CONFIGURATION ASSISTANT
delete the installed database.

then start the installer again and remove the installation.

If this was not the reason: Do you have more than one Oracle Product on your PC?

If so you have started the wrong installer (of one of the other products).

Dude(ette);

If you eventually have to resort to a manual removal:

* Stop all Oracle Services and set them to 'Manual'

* Try to delete the Ora90 folder (you may get 'sharing violation' or 'oci32.dll is in use', etc, but you can rename offending files and reboot). The services are on Manual so they won't come back up.

* Delete all the 9i services from registry
hkey_local/software/system/current control set/services

If you really want to get rid of all traces:
* Remove all references to the 9i (ora90) installation from Program Files / Oracle (NT)
* Remove all references to 9i from the Oracle registry key
hkey_local/software/Oracle
