Hi folks. I'll be carrying out an upgrade to 9.2.0.8 (from 9.2.0.7) on Sunday. I've read the docs and it looks fairly straighforward, but any gotchas that you might be aware of would be much appreciated. TIA.

No gotchas. As with any Oracle upgrade, however, just be sure to re-run your data dictionary scripts (e.g., CATALOG, CATPROC, CATEXP, et cetera) following the software upgrade.

There is a Metalink note, 388281.1, which addresses issues specific to the 9.2.0.8.0 patch set. You should read it before applying the patch set.

When I applied the 9.2.0.8.0 patch set on our 9i database servers, the only one of these known issues which I actually ran into was the problem with the owapatch.sql script, which is discussed in note 390993.1. Apparently owapatch.sql installs correctly only on Solaris and Linux. On other platforms there are various problems. I was installing on HP-UX and my particular problem was that the file, owapatch.sql, in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin was completely empty. I had to download the correct owapatch.sql script from the link provided in note 390993.1.

Thanks friends, I'm just about to start, so I'll report back with the results.

Well, guys, the upgrade has completed, but I seem to have run into the owapatch.sql problem as described by karluk. As I have no personal access to metalink, I'll need to log a call with our application providers for advice. I won't be able to do that until tomorrrow, so I'll get back to you then.

Incidentally, isn't it weird that even before running runInstaller, one has to jump through hoops making things executable? A security method, perhaps?

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
