Hi All

We have a system developed with Oracle 8i & Visual Basic 6. Its been installed in user's pc, but now they have change their pc's. Now, when they run that system they are getting the error: -214746725ORA -12154:TNS:Could not resolve service name.

We tried to resolve this by uninstalling the Oracle, and re-install Oracle again in their PC's. But the Problem is still there.

Can somebody ps help me. I need to resolve this soon.

This error indicates that either the TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files are not where they are supposed to be, the TNS alias they are trying to use is wrong, or possibly the domain setting in SQLNET.ORA is wrong.
One thing you might try is checking the setting for the enviroment variable TNS_ADMIN. If it is set, then you need to make sure the *.ORA files are in that directory. If it is not set, then try setting it to the directory where your *.ORA files are located.
Also, make sure that there is only one set of *.ORA files available - people often do multiple Oracle installations on one machine and then have problems maintaining all of their tnsnames.ora files in parallel.

tnsnames.ora file contains information about the "connections" to databases.

Uninstalling/re-installing Oracle will not do it, you need to create a tnsnames.ora file in each pc under the {ORACLE HOME}\network\admin directory -- or -- in a network drive, pointing the TNS_ADMIN environment variable to that location.
