I downloaded Oracle 8i personal edition from Oracle couple years ago on my Pentium P200 running windows98. Don't think it is a full Oracle 8i version as I want to simulate what I have at work which is Solaris unix and Oracle 8.1.7.

Reading Carol McCullough_Dieter's Oracle 8i for dummies book leads me to believe there is Oracle 8i full version for windows98.

If there is, I would like to get a copy somewhere so I can learn Oracle at my own pace. If not, my next option is to install Linux on my PC and go dual boot with Lilo to download and install Oracle 8i or 9i under Linux partition.

The hardest part I find is like Linux, to get the right Oracle installed on my machine. Once I have the tools and real thing to play and practise with then I can learn it very easily.

Thank you for replying my post Dima. Good advice on the personal 8i on windows98. I come to that conclusion after searching on the internet and found nothing. I will leave it on my 40 gi drive. I have tons of stuff running on my Pentium 200, SAS pc, visual basic 5.0, access 97, my connection to work solaris unix and network, mvs 3270 emulation. You are correct and I could pick another Pentium III 450 from government surplus for less than another $300, but I think in the interest of time, it will still work. Oracle 8.1.7 linux install manual states minimum ram 128 meg which I have. I double-check it will work on Red Hat 7.0. The reason I am saying this is because I am not using it for a life production run, I am just loading it for the sake of finding out if it would and learning purposes. My friend has done this before on a P245 or something not a P200 but his feeling was that it would work. Well, I am still attempting to partition my 40 gi and I got partition magic from a Mandrake 7.0 I had a few years back. I will keep you and others posted on my progress. Thank you for your reply. I intend to reply myself for others but forgotten after a while with no response from this forum.
