Help!

I need to decide wethere to install Oracle 8.1.7 on a Windows NT 4.0 Sp6 server or on a Windows 2000 Sp2 server. what arguments for / against either??
i am leaning towards w2k as it's the newer (improved) OS.

thanks ,

Fs

I would agree, W2K is the more stable platform. There's also an argument for using the latest platform you can run on, it will be much easier (in general) to upgrade later. Mike

Hi,
let me tell you from experience that 8.1.7 and win2k are a nice match. Administrator features of win2k are great for monitoring I/O, permissions of o/s. and terminal services problem that existed in 8.1.6 is solved. Plus with the proper layout of the database and about 1024k of RAM....you have a really great set up. I do have some advice though, try and stay away from OEM as much as possible, except for looking at the setups of parameters, tablespaces, etc.. because command line is still best for 8.1.7, there are many little problems that come up with OEM that I do not ever see documented on METALINK, but I have gotten to know from experience. Drop the ntsp6 and git on ova' to win2ksp2!
