I'm an Oracle newbie and I would like to self-train by installing Oracle at home, where I run Windows 2000 Pro. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to install Oracle 7 on Win 2K Pro? If not, which is the 'oldest' (i.e. cheapest!) version of Oracle I could use for this purpose. As I said, it is purely for educational reasons that I'm interested in doing this. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give :)

Thanks for that. Is it literally impossible to install Oracle 7 on Win2k?

best wishes

I have not try it though, but Oracle does not guarantee other versions other than 8.1.6 up for personal edition.

If you are a newbie to Oracle there is not much point starting with an obsolete version :)

Take rcurva's advice - use 8.1.7
