Hello All,

This week i´ve made a few runn´s, trying to backup an Windows Oracle 10G Database, with RMAN to an NFS of Samba(SMB) Share. HotBackup.

Everytime i run a testbackup it fails and from the errorlogs is readable that the file could not be created.
After the backup failed to an Samba or NFS Share i´ve tried backing up to a normal Windows Share from a different host.
It also failed!

Not only the backup is failing, it´s also impossible to create a tablespace on a share with format (CIFS,SMB or NFS).

Other things like creating, deleting and reading directories and files from windows(explorer or dos) is possible.

Has anybody else tried to backup a Windows Oracle Database to an Share or maybe Storage? How is it working? Maybe i´ve missconfigured something wrong.

I have also installed Oracle 10G on Linux and RMAN runns the Backup to an NFS Share. This is working.

Any help is appreciated.
Regards and nice evening.

What errors are you getting?

If it's: ORA-27054: NFS file system where the file is created or resides is not mounted with correct options

Then it's an Oracle 10g bug. [3eyes]

Hey thanks fro reply,

I get the following errors:

Failed to commit: ORA-01119: Fehler bei der Erstellung der Datenbankdatei 'E:\testnfs.dbf' ORA-27040: Fehler beim Erstellen von Datei, Datei kann nicht erstellt werden OSD-04002: Datei kann nicht geöffnet werden O/S-Error: (OS 3) Das System kann den angegebenen Pfad nicht finden.

ORA-01119: error in creating database file 'E:\testnfs.dbf'
Cause: Usually due to not having enough space on the device, but in this case it appears it's not finding the 'E' drive.

ORA-27041: unable to open file
Cause: open system call returned an error, additional information indicates which function encountered the error

OSD-04002: unable to open file
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.

Try to pre-create all the directories. Also, ensure that you have permissions to write to all these directories.

Can you create a file in that directory? Does it work when you change the path to a local directory (for example, a directory on C:)?

i have permissions but still the same problem.

do you have any experiences with shares and oracle?

Only with Unix -- NO WinDoze stuff. [nosmiley]

ok.

It seems to me like oracle on windows is unable to create tablespaces or to perform backups on external shares.

I´ve also opened a tar at oracle support but they also don´t know what to do. Yesterday we´ve made an OWC Session an the technician stopped after 15minutes cause he didn´t know the problem.

Are there any other hints i could try. I would be much happier if somebody could tell me that this is not working:)

regards
