ORA-911 Invalid Character error from Acc 97 Db

Hi,
I wonder if anybody can help me please.

We have an Access 97 database which is trying to read an Oracle 8 database via an Oracle 8.01.06.00 ODBC driver.

When we try to open any database (system or user) via the Access front end (either directly or in vba code) we are getting an ORA-911 Invalid Character error message.

if we access the data from Oracle we can read it ok, likewise we actually have one pc (NT 4 sp6/Access 97 SR2) using the same drivers/same setup etc that can open every table witout any problems!! Can anybody suggest anyway that we may fix/investigate this ??
