Hi - I'm trying to log onto our database server using Enterprise Manager.

This is something I have been able to do without a problem before. But, we have changed our IP addresses. I am logging on using the IP address, the port, and the database name. I am getting the TNS error code noted above.

Other clients on the network can get on fine, either using the machine name or the IP address.

The previous 3 threads on this don't help me in this instance. I am running W2k, the target db is 8.1.5.

Any ideas anyone?

TIA, Sid

I thought packet writer failures were 12571, not 12576?

why are you using 815? It's not a production release - it was the last beta release in 8i before it went producion in 816, and nothing less than 817 is supported now, right? There have been several hundred patches applied to 817 and OEM 2.2 that were not back ported to 815 and OEM 2.0. for example, your SQL*Plus should be 3.1.3.7.4 or higher to avoid a common problem with packet writer failures.

Make sure your tns files are in the Oracle Home where Enterprise Manager is installed. You'll get odd behaviors when you set env variable tns_admin pointing to a network location.

According to Oracle's web site "If it is a network error, then you need to start looking for things like bad nic cards or cables. Uninstall and reinstall the protocol driver stack, make sure you can resolve hostname that you are trying to use when trying to connect. "

I hope this was helpful.
