ora-12560 tns protocol adapter error at server and at
client
ora- tns failed to start a dedicated server process.
listener also stops ,on restarting server for sometime it works fine but again the same problem starts.
i have checked tnsnames.ora and listener.ora ,if required i can give u the details of these 2 files.
2 times we formatted and loaded win -NT 4.0 and oracle 8i
on server,

20-23 days it worked fine but again today the same problem
started.
pl suggest soon.

i have also checked the error message at technetoracle.com
the error explanation-
ORA-12560 TNSrotocol adapter error
This message indicates that there is a problem at the protocol adapter
level. That is, SQL*Net and the Interchange are functioning correctly,
but there is something wrong with the protocol adapter that underlies
them. The Oracle operating specific documentation for your platform
contains more information about the protocol adapters.

ORA-12560 TNSrotocol adapter error

Cause: A generic protocol adapter error occurred.

Action: Check addresses used for proper protocol specification.
Before reporting this error, look at the error stack and check for
lower level transport errors. For further details, turn on tracing
and reexecute the operation. Turn off tracing when the operation is
complete.
i have traced the error but did not get to make anything out.
pl suggest soon as this is urgent.

Hi,

well , one suggestion from my side ,
When you loaded the Windows NT OS on the server at the time of installation when you configured the Network Protocol Adapter for Win NT , may be that was not configured/loaded properly or has any files corrupt maybe thats why youre getting a protocol adapter failure message .
You can juck check it once again.

Hi,
We had the same problem twice, I don't know if it can help you,
- The first :We have a server with novell 5, and after setting up oracle 7.3.4, the listner failed, I tried lsnctl and strat, It faild too, the problem was in the file listener.ora (under OARCLE_HOME\network\admin\),
We have two protocols: The IP adresse was not the same of the server, we corrected it and it's working from Jully 2000 until now,
-The second : We installed Novell 5 in anothe machine, and we had the same problem as in The first, I don't remember the error numer, And I'm sure that it was linked to the listner, and I tried lsnrctl and start the listner failed, the problem was in the mermory we inceased the RAM so it worked fine

I hope that will give you an idea

Thanks, Bye
