Good Afternoon all.

Appreciate some help on this one.

Had to re-install Imp 6.0 (Admin), W2000.

None of the previously created catalogs are connecting. All comes back with :

Error number -9:

DMS-E-GENERAL, A general exception has occurred during operation 'attach database'.
Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-03121

I copied over the previous Cognos.ini and Impromptu.ini files, but same error.

Anyone have any ideas?

Many Thanks in advance ...

Sounds like an Oracle client-side setup issue. The full Oracle text on the message number is:

ORA-03121 no interface driver connected - function not performed
Cause: This message occurs usually because the Net8 driver is not loaded into
memory or there is a mismatch of the version of the driver. A user program
linked with an obsolete library may also cause this message. Only programs
provided by Oracle Corporation should use this interface.

If you had done modifications to the cogmor.ini section "[DLL Names]" to get the right oracle dll to load, it was overwritten during the re-install. You will have to modify the file again to point to the correct Sqlnet dll version.

Hope this helps

Many Thanks.

I replaced the COGDMOR.ini file with a working copy from a similarly set up machine.

Bizarre same error.

Any other assistance is appreciated...

Here's some more helpful(?) suggestions from the Cognos Knowledgebase:

Solution Description

1. Make sure that the Connect String being used is correct.

2. Ensure that the path to the \orawin\bin directory is in the PATH (under Windows NT that path must exist at the System settings level and not just for the User settings).

3. Make sure the correct version of SQL*Net is being used.

3. Make sure NetTest is successful and a connection can be made in SQL*Plus.

4. Check for multiple versions of the ORACLE.INI file - make sure that the Oracle.ini file being used contains the correct information. This may include checking mapped drives for the ini file

5. Ensure that the free conventional memory is over 500, that there are sufficient system resources to load the drivers into memory.

6. Add the following to the autoexec.bat:
Set Config_Files= <path to the oracle.ini file>

7. If using Oracle 8.04, change the entry in cogdmor.ini for the dll as follows:

[DLL Names]
OR80=ORA804.DLL,8.0

to make it the correct version.

Hopefully one of these will do it for you.

Thank You Dave

I will try these Monday when I get back on site...

Thanks for the help.
Nothing was successful. Al other Oracle apps work ok. I guess something is corrupted that cannot be fixed by a re-install.

I installed I6.0 on some elses machine, and all worked without a hickup.

Oh well... AA 8~)
