ORA-03113 End-of-file on communication channel

While trying to install Oracle 9i (personal) in a windows NT Server 4.0 machine, I am getting the following error :
ORA-03113 End-of-file on communication channel

This error also appears during the execution of database configuration assistant.

Any suggestions ?

End-of-file on communication channel means that the connection has been broken with your database. Ensure that your database is started and running.

If it happens during the configuration assitant, then there
is probably a problem with one of the parameters you entered at database creation time.. you can check
%ORACLE_HOME%\admin\%ORACLE_SID\bdump to see if there is
an alert log. If there is (alert_SID.log) then open it up
and see what is generating the error. You can then run the dbca again and fix that parameter, or if you told the dbca to run the scripts you can change what needs changing in the initSID.ora file, and then run the scripts from sqlplus. .
