ORA-01207: file is more recent than controlfile - old controlfile

Hi Guys,

I have Oracle running on HP-UX, anytime I powered up the Oracle, I usally gets this error an:ORA-01207: file is more recent than controlfile - old controlfile.

However, I understand that I need to Use the current controlfile or do backup controlfile recovery to make the controlfile current.

But I need to be sure to follow all restrictions on doing a backup controlfile recovery.

Could somebody help me with a detailed step by step move to accomplish the "backup controlfile recovery".

how many controlfiles do you have?

do you regulary do a

'alter system backup controlfile to trace'?

How did this error first occur?
