ORA 01034 ORACLE NOT AVAILABLE

When i connecting my sql it contain "ora - 01034 oracle not available " Error. I am using oracle8i. My system configuration PIII , 64mb ram, 20 gb HDD.

How can i solve this proble.

Please Guide me.

you can also get this with a running instance if your environment variables (ORACLE_HOME & ORACLE_SID) aren's set correctly. try:

ps -ef | grep ora_ | cut -d"_" -f3 | sort

if this returns anything you probably (>98%) have a running instance and just need to set your variables.

check host and sid entry of your TNSNAMES, values should be equal to your database server.
