Hi, I'm using Accpac 5.6 PU3.

I've set up an optional field in Internal Usage Details which is not validated. Auto-Insert is set to 'Yes', Required and Value Set is 'No'.
The same field with the same options is set up in GL.

I'm trying to achieve that if an item is issued to a certain GL account, the user has to fill in the optional field.
I've tested it in GL and GL forces me to fill in the Optional field for that account only - which is what I want.

Now I'm trying to force the user to enter the optional field in internal issues as well - but only if that specifc Gl account is used.
This does not seem to work as the error message for optional fields would just come up every time.

If I set the value set field to "yes" and post the issue, GL does not give an error because it thinks the value is set with nothing when in fact the user that posted the internal issue has made a mistake and not filled in the optional field.

How can I teach Accpac to give me an error in GL or IC if the optional field is not filled in for a specific GL account?
 
No can do, either make it required for all input in IC or live with the errors in GL.
 
Thanks for your reply, although not what I was hoping for.
Are there any know workarounds? Surely I'm not the first one coming accross this issue.
 
The optional field functionality doesn't include much business logic across different modules. They fields will copy between related transactions if you've set up the optional fields on all documents (orders, shipments to invoices). And those optional fields can be made to go to the GL.

But you can't associate an optional field with a customer and have the customer's optional field be copied to a new AR invoice you create for that customer, for example. Adding that functionality would be fantastic.
