Hello to All:
A quick question: At what software version of the Option 11 did they start with the PCMCIA cards for loading the software and for backups? And, what version did it allow for Option 11's to be backed up to a PC? Thanks In Advance.

Tony

Opt11c Rls22 is where the PCMIA was introduced, (SSC card)

All versions of the Opt11, ie Opt11 (Rls16), Opt11e & Opt11c can be backed up to a PC using the XBK command in LD143

So the earlier versions loaded from disketts, correct? Where would the slot be on the older CPU cards?

the software was supplied as a plastic cartridge that you installed on the cpu card. to do a s/w upgrade nortel provided a new cartridge

So, was an external disc/tape drive needed to backup the system besides to the CPU/memory?

no, you can backup to any pc storage medium, you do this by connecting to a system tty as you would for administration & use the ld143 command xbk. the system will send you a backup of customer data which if needed you can use to restore a dead system from. before doing this you need to do an edd in ld43, as the xbk is a copy of the data stored on the cpu as opposed to the data on the s/w cartridge. the midnight routine only backs up to the cartridge & not the cpu. the same applies to the 11c where the z drive is not refreshed on a midnight edd.

Wdhb - This is a Rel18 switch with the older SSC. I've tried going into LD143 but that overlay isn't a part of the login/password we use to adminsiter the switch. So, where does this leave me as far as trying to backup to a PC?

Sorry, your right. The XBK, XVR commands are in LD43 on pre Rls20/22 s/w, Refer to your I/O manuals. Long time since I worked on those.

Been going down that road most of the day, all of my manuals are Rel 22 and above. Thanks for your help.
