Option Group onchange event not working

I have an DTC option group on an asp page with a onchange event. So, I have 3 choices; NEW, OLD and TRANSFER and when the page comes up it defaults to the first one which is NEW. Now, one would think that if you have 3 choices in the option group and you select say, TRANSFER that the onchange event would work. Well, it does not!! The event fires ONLY when you select another option in the group and my response.write shows the previous one selected. Hence, it is lagging. Does anyone have any advice about this anomily?
