Option group check boxes are grey!

Hi-
I have a few option groups in a form.....I added a change case code to them, so that the data that appears in the table is different from the "1", "2","3" that the option group uses.....(so now instead of 1-2-3, it's red, blue, green)
The problem is that the check boxes do not checks anymore....they all appear grey, until you select one, which then remains a solid grey box....and no check. It also seems to be having problems keeping the selection...like it wants to go back and select them all....
Does anyone know how to get around this! It's functional, but not very pretty. thanks,
