Is there a way to remotely back up the nortel option 11 to a centralized server? What we are wanting to do, or see if it is possible to do, is send a copy of the load 43 edd daily routine to a separate server that is centrally controlled. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also I was wondering what exactly is contained in the load 43 edd routine?

EDD backs up customer data and generally the patching. It does NOT back up the system software.

Back up to a server.... njo idea, however, if there was a modem and line, you could possibly automate the task to use LD 143 XBK

Which reminds me, LD 43 does not work on an Opt 11....but does on the large switchs.

Ok, well we do have a hard wired connections over the network for OTM use as well as an SEB dedicated phone line. Anything else needed can be accommodated to make this happen. So how would I conduct a full system backup? It was realized in our BCP/DRP that there is no outside backup system for the option 11's at our sites and we need to get this addressed.

XBK is the only method I know, however it may be possible to use FTP and set up a routine via "pdt" to backup the contents of the db folder or "Z" drive?.

If this is possible, then it should be OK to add in a ARCH_DB folder and transfer it to a PCMCIA card for a restore in the future.

ok sow how would I go about setting that up... here is the deal, we recently had three sites lose information, such as routing tables and user information. Its almost like someone deleted it... We are wanting to know the steps on how we can go about setting something like this up! This way we can be confident that if there is a hardware issue, such as a pcmcia card, then the info can be stored to a location other than the machine itself.

The LD 43 command does work in an Opt. 11. There is also an XBK and XVR command in LD 143 for back ups to a PC. There is also a disaster recovery program in OTM that you may be able to schedule also. I saw it used one time and it saved my butt. Cant remember the particulars on it though but I know it's there.

The other command in LD 143 is XRT, that will allow you to restore the file from a PC to the primary drive of the Opt. 11. This information was pulled out of a 5.5 document, not sure what you have.

The XBK, XRT commands can be done via serial port access only and it's best to use TTY 0. It can be done with a modem connected to TTY 0.
