I am interesting what would be a good monitor power setting (turn off monitor after specified period of PC inactivity) considering lifetime of CCFLs (Cold Cathode Flurescent Lamp) in LCD monitor. Don't know exact difference between CCFL and common CFL (in widespread use). Acctually once I have found reccommendation for CFL (not CCFL) not to switch it off if one needs to turn it on again in less than 15 minutes as this power on/off cycle would damage lamp (in cost) more than cost of saved electricity as power on/off cycle drastically decrease lifetime of CFL. Now, taken into consideration that it is somewhat complicated to change CCFLs in a LCD monitor I suppose that this period should be even longer.
If one power on/off cycle shorten lifespan of a CCFL for let's say as two hours of normal use (just a guess) than (not including electricity cost) it would not be wise to turn off LCD monitor if inactivity will be less than two hours. But as I said this two hours period is just my guess, I really don't know if CFL data is applicable to CCFL in LCD monitor and what would be optimal time setting for monitor power off (not considering cost of electricity).
