Guys,

My /opt is 100% full - I've tried to do housekeeping but not much help. Now I want to Increase the disk space as I have plenty of vacant space which is not used in any slices but my disk is under SVM (solaris Volume Manager) and mirrored with another scsi disk.

It would be great help If some one provide me steps to Increase disk space. thanks!

Thanks for the reply!

But my problem is - I dont have the free slice on my server but my disk got 30 GB free space.

Can we see a prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/cNtNdNs2 of the 2 disks in question?

I presume either slice 4 or 5 corresponds to /opt, do you know which one? If it's 4 you may not need to create a new slice, as it is the last one before the free space, so you could increase its size.

You need to check the mirror disk as well though because the layout is not guaranteed to be identical.

Its Slice no 5 and Its also mirrored. How can I create new slice ?

You can't create a new slice because they're all used up. You might have to use soft partitions, which I know nothing about, but Ken or one of the others may be able to help with that.

Otherwise you could reorganise the disk, or even move /opt to another disk in the system, if there are a couple free.

To reorganise the disk, make sure you have a good backup, break the mirrors, repartition one of the disks the way you want it, boot from the reorganised disk, and then recreate your mirrors. There are documents out there (probably not so far from the one Alan mentioned) which will go into the details for you.

As Anni suggested, you can soft partition one of your slices and use that to extend your /opt slice.

This document will walk you through the soft partition process;

You can then add this new metadevice to extend your device holding /opt and use the growfs command to complete the job.

Remember to do this for both sides of the mirror.

The whole process from creating soft partitions to extending the file system is pretty straightforward, but if you have never done it before just follow the docs closely and it will be fine.
Good luck.

Alan
