I have a call center that is taking additional space in a building right next door (across an alley) to the existing office. I'm trying to avoid the cost & complications of installing a separate switch for the new space.
Assuming a fiber run between the buildings is possible, can anyone tell me what is the maximum distance I can place a Option 11C expansion cabinet from the main? Also, is there a fiber expansion card made specifically for extended distances, or will the same card suffice for both short and long haul?
Thanks!

Bill

At least 1 km with a standard fiber connection.
(and even more by placing repeaters in the fiber connection, I don't think there are special M1 fiber boards)

So with a standard fiberboard and a fiber line across the alley you should be fine.

There is a certain distance for the cards:
Fiber receiver NTDK23(10m)
NTDK25 (3 km, multimode)
NTDK80 (3km singlemode)
Fiber daughterboard
NTDK 22/24/81 single mode-single port
NTDK 84/85-dual port

then there are ip(100 base T & F)

Hi, My advise is that you should use multi mode cards.
Note, that they should be multi mode cards in both ends.

I have had major problems with single mode cards.
It simply didnt work, even though the fiber connection was well within range.
(also tried to change all fiber cards)

I was informed by my vendor that the distance configuration we're discussing will soon no longer be supported by Nortel.
Can anyone confirm this?
