opt 11 to mitel - hardware connectivity 2

Hi All and Happy Easter. Does anyone know the physicial hardware interconnectivity between the option 11 and mitel 3300? I do not know how to actually physicially interface off of the merdian, ie which port, etc. Also, I am aware I need a patch but dont know which NA patch I need. Thank you in advance. AJK

hello,

you will need some sort of digital link card installed in to the meridian switch which supports DPNSS this will then be typically a coaxial connection. I think you will need some assistance from the meridian provider in setting you up as well.

You will alos require a universal NSU on your Mitel switch with the relevant digital link license purchased.

Why are you focussing only on DPNSS? Do you recommend against QSIG trunks for Mitel-to-Nortel connections? If so, why?

We're looking at a few different vendors for trunk replacement and Mitel is one of the leaders in our search. If we were to select Mitel as our vendor, we're planning on using QSIG trunks to connect to our Option 11s.

I am only going by what i have been told by other colleagues and my previous experiences of connecting to other equipment with the mitel 3300. Q-sig is not a feature rich as DPNSS, I have always found it better to use DPNSS.

actually, I believe QSIG is a worldwide standard that surpassed DPNSS and came into being as a successor. DPNSS is now outdated with the advent of the standardization of QSIG. Anyway, thank you for helping! AJK

While Q.SIG is a "standard" I think you will find that the individual components which comprise the standard are each subject to vendor interpretation. You will only achieve full integration transparency if/when both players agree on all the esoteric components of the standard. I can honestly say of the various platforms we've tried to integrate via Q.SIG that the link between Mitel and Nortel was (and remains) the most difficult/non-compliant. We've been able to pass callerID Name/Number from the Mitel to the (Opt 11) Nortel, but coming back toward the Mitel we see number only. Nortel admits it's their problem, but want money to apply the needed patch to the Opt11. Trying to send calls through (tandem) the Nortel so far only seems to work reliably using E&M intermachine trunks. Even then it's been problematic. If for some reason the T1 goes down, it often will not restore on the Nortel end without having the service tech go out to the site and reset it. Marvelous piece of equip. the Meridian.

Are you seeing this sort of non-compliance with the Nortel Succession software? I've heard that QSIG in release 25 is horribly implemented, but Nortel claims full compliance beginning with Succession 3.0 (or was it 4.0? Hmm...)

To physically connect an option 11 switch to your mitel 3300 server you will need a meridian NTBK79AA PRI card for the option 11. This is a single port DASS/DPNSS card that will occupy one slot in the option 11. The cable connection between the option and the mitel will be a cable assembly consisting of a 25 pin female 'cinch' connector for the option 11, terminated onto a length of 75 ohm twin co-ax cable with a pair of BNC connectors at the other end for connection to the 3300.

You will have to check the software on the option 11 to see wether there is enought capacity to run the extra digital link. Try logging onto the option with a terminal and entering load overlay LD 22, Then typing in PRT follwed by a return. Then type in SLT followed by a return to print out the system port limits. You will need 30 TNS for the digital link for all 30 channels. Good luck.
