I am trying to import a telephone directory into Ops Manager but keep getting the same error telling me there are not enough fields. I have gone over the instructions several times and confirmed that my import file is set up with 12 fields as well as added additional fields 1 by one hopeing to at least get to the point where it gives me a different error but have not had any luck. Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this or do you have a working import format you can post back?

Thanks

Dale

May I ask why you would want to do this?

What is your end goal?

I am in the process of cleaning up the directories at all of our sites. Most extensions don't have any name on them and I have a spreadsheet with all the information in it and want to import it rather than spend the next month or two manually entering them (4,037 IP sets alone).

Since release 7 we have had the ability to import into all forms.

It might take a day to correct all systems by working with excel but not months.

With our regular work load it would still take a while to import into our 107 sites one at a time. I was just hoping to be able to do it all at once when time permitted.

Sometimes the short route isnt the best route.

would you ever be 100% confident in your OPSman DB to want to Propogate out to 107 sites?

If you edit at the site level at least mistakes aren't duplicated 107 times.

I admire your spunk, but I wouldnt do it.

I've only had to do this once, so take my experience with a grain of salt.

I got bit by having the last few columns being blank. Saving the CSV from Excel cuts off the rows at the last column with data, so blank columns that may follow do not have the comma seperator. To check, open the CSV with notepad and make sure all of the commas required for each row are really there. Also make sure to use quotes for any Lastname,Firstname name entries (so John Smith would be "Smith,John" in your csv file).

Something else to consider, if the TelDir entries are physical sets, you might want to use SchedMAC instead of a TelDir import. The advantage with using SchedMAC is you can customize the column layout, only including the fields you need to change.

Well, I was finally able to get it to accept the .csv file and everything imported without a hitch. I then performed a propogate followed by a sync and everything is as it should be.

Thanks for everyones input...

Amazing when it works, hell when it doesn't.

Congratulations
