Hi All,

I am new to goldmine and we are just going through the setup. We would like to have a counter function on the reference field when adding a new opportunity. I would like to assign it a number + the project name. The project name is a custom field in the other tab.

I have looked through Goldmine for dummies book and im at a complete loss, from what i can gather lookup.ini should be okay for this. Please can someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks

In my Hacker Guide series of books I describe how to use the counter() function via the F2 Lookup. If you can work within the 30 character limitation, or you can use to F2 Lookups that this should work for you.

~padl(ltrim(str(counter([A],1))),10,[0])

Hi thanks for the reply, i have your book but im afraid that the f2 lookup function will not work as we have three office's schronising the same database. I have seen your sugestion using lookup.ini and appending the username to the unique identifier, but again i cant see this working as for instance unique id BOB0001 and say FRED0001 i feel would add more complexity. Anymore suggestions? Thanks

It is always possible, albeit expensive, to have a custom application written that would allow you to achieve your goal. I do not, however, know of an alternative solution within GoldMine.
