I am trying to switch a terminal printer from the direct com ports to using OPOS drivers. There is a cash drawer attached to the printer for this station.

The printer works fine printing directly to com 1.

I have rebooted the terminal, bypassed the Aloha startup, added the Epson ADK 2.64 drivers.

In BOH, I have changed the printer type OPOS, added the LDN, and refreshed the data. I have rebooted all the terminals after the refresh.

Check Health is not working on the printer, and I cannot get anything to print on it.

I think there may be an issue with the cash drawer being attached.

I've changed it back to Com 1, and it's working fine, but I need to change it to OPOS for another application that is going to run on the terminals.

Am I missing something related to the cash drawer?

Any help, or steps in how to get this setup would be appreciated.

Thanks

I also tried this on another terminal that does not have a cash drawer attached.

This terminal does have a 2nd kitchen printer attached to Com2.

I received the same error on this machine. After I setup the OPOS printer and try the "Check Health Interactive: I get a result of "OPOS_E_ILLEGAL, 10007(0x00002717).

I rebooted the terminal and started it without loading Aloha. I loaded the OPOS ADK drivers and configured the printer, and got the error.

I went into Aloha BOH, and set the terminal printer to OPOS, and refreshed.

I rebooted the terminal, did not load Aloha, and got the same error.

I rebooted the terminal and loaded aloha, and got the same error.

I went into Aloha BOH, and configured the 2nd printer to also use OPOS, refreshed data.

I rebooted the terminal again, and still got the same error.

I checked the settings on the printer. It was originally set to XON/XOFF, so I changed it to DTR, since that is the only option in the Epson 2.64 ADK.

I even tried to reboot the terminal with the network unattached, and bypass Aloha and still got the same error.

I assume something in Aloha is interrupting the OPOS driver (since this is happening on 2 different terminal) but I have changed the printer to OPOS and refreshed, so I don't know what else I could do.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, can someone clarify if I am required to run the printer and Cash register on OPOS drivers for the first terminal? And if I am required to run the printer on Com 1 and the printer on Com 2 as OPOS printers on the second terminal? Or can I use OPOS drivers for the printer on com 1 and leave the kitchen printers as configured using Com 2?

Thanks in advance.

1. Remember that Aloha (specifically Iber.exe) likes to control all of the POS PC "real estate." That means all of the serial ports, the parallel port, etc.

Having a second application access the same printer that is already mapped to Aloha will not work.

I have worked with applications that use the Aloha Connect interface (a purchased add-on starting with Ver 6.2) and feed the print job to aloha which in turn feeds it to the printer. That being said, using OPOS won't solve your problem.

2. In general when using Epson Opos for a Printer, you also have to create an Epson Opos Cash Drawer on the same port in order for the drawer to open.

Good luck.
