Hello,
a couple months back my boss put me to task to upgrade our current early 90's AT&T Definity & Audix PBX to a more modern VOIP solution. We've narrowed down the search to two vendors, Shoretel and Avaya and have had two presenstations from each of their group of representatives. We're still waiting on the quote from Avaya, but have received one yesterday afternoon from Shoretel, and my boss is "blown away" by the price and not too happy about the amount. He was looking to spend up to $70,000 on a new system, but we've received a quote for $170,000 (we hadn't let the vendors know our budget yet, btw). I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether or not this quote is "fair" or are we being drastically overcharged for some/all of it?

Here's the quote:

The ShoreTel phone system for 50 users:

1 120/24 ShoreGear Switch (the PBX)

2 PRI/T1 ShoreGear Boxes

47 IP230 phones

3 IP560 phones

1 Button Box (for receptionist)

19 VoiceMail/Extension licenses

31 Extension licenses

49 Personal Call Managers (no charge)

1 Operator Call Manager

1 Server

4 Days—Installation, Programming, Training

1 Year HD/SW Support/Maintenance

$43,434.00

APROPOS Contact Center for 31 agents/Supervisors:

27 Seat Licenses/4 Supervisors

Professional/Design Services

Agent Training

Management/Supervisor Training

Installation, Programming

1 Year Maintenance

$129,346.00
------------
total is: $129,346.00 + $43,434.00 = $172,780.00
-----------------------------------------

thanks,
David

Seems way off the mark to me. 50 stations on a Nortel system (BCM) that would compare to what you mentioned above, installed, shouldn't be more than $60-65K depending on how many ACD queues you need, etc. I'd run screaming away from that quote if I were in your shoes. What I'd like to know is how the contact center could possibly be $130K.

I agree. That quote seems way out of line to me. There are very good vendors out there that do not try to retire on one sale. I would look into all vendors that has product you need. Costs you nothing for them to quote a system and you will see some very neat features between the vendors. Also, the more quotes you get the better pricing you will find. Do not go with someone that you are not comfortable with.

We all need a little help once in awhile. Tony the Phoneman..

Good morning. Shop around. Take a look at NEC and thier VOIP solutions. Sometimes the more quotes you get the more you learn and sometimes the more confused you get. Good luck!

CallCenter, it seems a magic word wich is painted in gold by the manufacturers.
Take a look around to the "little" systems, often they can deliver a nice solution for less money and give a lot better support.
