Opinions on POTS/PRI line surge protection

Just curious to hear if you guys use line surge protection for your POTS or PRI trunks. I argue with Sales that for Comcast PRI and Digital trunks that it's not needed because of the Adtran and EMTA but wanted to hear some input. We typically use this with the analog or PRI inserts...

Comes built-in with the Eaton UPS that protect the IPO and switches.

Anything goes wrong, I'm in the clear.

Can you link that particular model? We primarily use APC branded UPS' but killing two birds with one stone would be great.

Some of the cheaper once are Eaton Ellipse PRO 850 or Eaton Powerware 5110 (EoS over here).
Has worked flawlessly.

Had two APC's exploding in 2010, can't have that.

PRIs are usually delivered as a copper circuit. What happens when lightning strikes that pole? Regardless of the fact that its a digital signal, it travels over the copper line and straight into your IPO. Always, always, always use line protection and ground your systems properly.

I agree with that. I was referring to comcast provided PRI and digital pots lines that come in and hit a modem and then adtran before the phone system. Plus if you ever take a direct lightning hit,you're hosed either way.

I have used ITW/linx, great product and great warranty. I have had it save a Partner system from a direct hit before.
