I'm looking to get the feet of some of my clients wet with linux... I've installed 3 red hat servers in the past month with great feedback. Now some of them want to try out the linux workstation...

What are your opinions on the flavors for the linux workstations, what have you used in the past and what's the easiest for people to learn and not be afraid of...

Also, what software packages would be of use, aside from openoffice, that's a given...

Thanks

Red Hat's Fedora is nice. I am also fond of Mandrake.

OpenOffice.org is the best i've tried so far....

I don't think the choice of Linux distribution will matter much. I think that your choice of Xwindow desktop manager will.

KDE and Gnome are both great pieces of softare, but they both have a huge number of features which can slow down a system.

Try SuSE 9.1. Remember that novell now owns SuSE
and that the client offerings from novell have
always been solid. It is a no-sweat effort to
deal with SuSE pro on the desktop.

I think SuSE is nice. The other option is Xandros, they have compatibility with windows software so it might help bridge the gap.

Also, check out the software packages that are in that CD will work on Windows and Linux. They can install it on Windows and check them out, then you can tell them it will work exactly the same in Linux.
