I'm looking to purchase Delphi 7 or C++ Builder 6 for developement work. I come from a Foxpro background and I'm looking for a general purpose fast developement, database tool, and used by numerous people.

Both have what I am looking for, but I can't decide on which to buy. Please give opinions?

This question has also been posted in Delphi forum.

Do you have a background in C++ or Pascal? If you know both, which do you prefer? IMHO, Borland always comes out with the "best" stuff in Delphi first and then Builder, however I prefer C++ over Pascal so I like Builder.

I'm with 2ffat on that one. Pascal, go Delphi. C, go BCB. Since this is a Borland C++ forum, I'm obligated to say choose BCB. ;-) Cyprus

At university, I did a project in c++, but I didn't use any OOA/OOD. There wasn'time. Since leaving, I have been using Foxpro 2.5/2.6a DOS\WIN.

I've looked at VFP and it is very complicated in comparision to old Foxpro and a higher learning curve than Delphi\Builder. As MS have not included this in .NET I'm not sure about this tool's future.

As I said before I want a faster more reliable tool.I have dusted my C++ books off but with Delphi 7 going to .NET and Borland haven't given any asurrances about the future of Builder, I'm thinking hard.

I only want to invest my time, initially on one tool, on one that is easy to learn and powerful, flexible.

Thanks

As for the easy part I am managing to learn the arcane arts by way of builder. I have had little help other than the help files. I have become adequate in my programming skills
insofar as I have only a hour or two a night to code/learn.
If my testimony is any reflection on the usage of builder
I would say it tells you that builder is quite easy to learn and the more I learn the more powerful it becomes. as for the power of any platform It would depend on the abilities of the programmer. I would imagine that there are a very few who could dazzle the rest of us with notepad and a turbo c compiler.

If you choose builder there are few places better to find help than here. The experts here have helped me immensely
and I just for the most part browse the messages.
