I am replacing 13 corp pcs with xp pro boxes. The pcs are w98 or w98se with files and settings and email(netscape) and browser on them.
Would using a data migration tool help with the migration? I sort of like the idea of a clean set-up but have never done this before. I looked at Detto products and they looked good-Are there any anybody else recommends? The XP file transfer utility does not seem to be a robust option...
Also, how long, approximately, per PC, should it take to replace an old PC with a new one? We do not have many additonal apps that need to be loaded on each pc-just email, data files, browser, settings etc.
After the new PC has been set-up, what application would people use for an image of the system in case we need to restore? I have heard good things about Norton Ghost-would I need a license for every PC here? Is taking an image of everyone's harddrive a good insurance policy? I want to implement these right and make it easy to restore in case of catastrophic occurences.
Any other additional insight on the steps I should take to make sure everything goes smoothly would be helpful. Or if there is a book out there people like that I could read, please shout it out.
Thanks!
