Hi all,

Not sure what happened here, but while attempting to setup a new system, suddenly all telephony services won't start. I can't access telephony programming through the UM and I think it's because of the MSC. I don't know what the next step is, I tried restoring the backup that had the defaults but still no services will start. The Voice MSC Service seems to be the root dependancy of the others, all I see in the event log is this:

Service Control Manager
Event 7024
The following information is part of the event: Voice MSC Service, 83.

I also tried creating an Archlog but I'm not sure what to look at there, very new to this system ya know.

I guess you could say that this started happening after I added the BCM to my domain.

Any thoughts? Any/all help is greatly appreciated.

Don't add it to your domain.

If you can access by serial port, do the initialization steps clear out the domain you entered.

The only time a BCM needs to be added to a domain is for LAN CTE, and even then there are ways around it. I added a BCM to a domain once, and spent half a day trying to get it back to normal. I'm glad the "add to domain" thing is going away.

LAN CTE... is that the softphone application? I was hoping to use that eventually, it can't work without?

No, it's not the softphone. I have softphone working on 60 BCM's and I have never used The Domain.

Have you gotten the BCM to work again??????

I tried removing it from the domain and then left it running all weekend, when I came in this morning it had locked up again. I'm currently looking for a serial cable to see if it will respond, everything seems to be shutdown. A warm reboot will bring it back but I need to know what's causing this, any other idea's?

I should add - The telephony services have restored back to normal (thanks!) but it locks up when left running for a few hours, this is the original problem I was having that led to the telephony services dying. In it's locked up state, it appears to be running just fine but all the lights on the base system tray are flashing in unison except two, the fan and the temp, and it won't respond through the NIC, can't even ping it. I would imagine there is a way to catch this failure in a log, I looked everywhere to no avail, maybe I just don't know what I'm looking for...

You have a motherboard problem with leaking Caps. It it a BCM 1000 or 400????

Yeah, Marshall sent me that article (I posted on his site too). It's a BCM 400, when I called the re-seller he asked if it may be having IP conflicts. Although it's on a specified IP that isn't in the range, this could be very possible, I've been seeing this happening on my workstations lately for some reason. He suggested that I take it off the network and see if it happens again. I'll post when I know more.

Thanks

If your LED's are flashing, it doesn't have anything to do with Your IP's. would you like a copy of the PAA20050066321 Ver2. It will tell what to look for. I have replaced 10 Base Functio Tray's in BCM 400 and motherboards in BCM 1000 in the last 6 month's.

You must be right, I tried what the technician said, it locked up on it's own private network...

The PAA20050066321 Ver2., yes, if you have a copy on-hand that would be very helpful, thanks acewarlock!

Oh, I see now, I tried searching Nortel's bulletins for that number but it came up with nothing. I think you both nailed it on this one, I'm now packing up the system to be sent back after talking to a technician, he said the same thing about the bulletin along with "Well, that's always Nortel's answer to everyhting". At least this gives me a chance to add the redundancy I should have gotten in the first place :)

Thanks again guys!

On the BCM 400, they just send you a new (BFT) Base Function Tray.

That's what I was expecting but they said they would rather do the work themselves. Fine by me, it won't need to be ready until late January anyway. In the future I will request the part be sent out.

Thanks
