Have a main report with 3 subreports within it. The subreports are all unlinked. The main report is based out of a table, shipments which is then linked to a table sales calls which is linked to a table customers

I have parameter fields in all 3 of my subreports which generate the data for them and were appearing for the user to fill in before the data from the report would display.

Now any time I run the report as something mistakenly has changed, whether I have 1 subreport or all 3 I receive an error. "operation illegal on linked parameters"

any advice on where to start looking?

Is there anywhere to check which parameters and where

Thanks

Hi,
Look in the record selection formula sections of each sub and see if the parameters reference a main report field.

If one of them does then is that most likely the problem?

Thanks

Yes..The parameters, if they prompt the user for a value will be flagged and that error will appear ( It seems, I've never had it)

Parameters are for user input and should not be linked to a main report field, especially to an unlinked main report.

You could place the parameters in the main report and link them to the subs fields, however.

well I took out all but one of the subreports and now in the table linking in my main report I just have it linked to the table in the subreport so:

Main Report SHIPMENTS is linked to SALESCALLS

the subreport is from the SALESCALLS table which isn't linked to the main report, the only table in the subreport is SALESCALLS.

Im not seeing any field or parameter which is referencing anything in the main table. I'll keep looking but, any other ideas?

somehow I had my parameters from my sub reports coming in and running when I ran my report...Im assuming that's what the problem is somewhere, but I know they weren't linked subreports

ok, I got 3 of my 4 subreports running. Basically had to recreate everything but when I add my fourth subreport which is a cross tab I can an out of memory error, is this typically with cross tabs when integrating with so much other data?

thanks
