I am receiving a 'this operation cannot be completed because of dialog or database engine failures' on a PC here and a customer PC when I use automation to mailmerge between my VFP9 app and Word 2003. I have also seen it once before on a system running my app despite the fact the app is running fine on several other PCs here and around 120 customer PCs running all combinations of operating systems and Word versions. According to messages I have found on the web Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) has become damaged. The resolution seems to be to update Windows to latest service packs, install Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)latest version and to run a repair on Microsoft Office. I have done all 3 on the PC in the office here and it has not made the slightest bit of difference. When this occurred last time I tried the same things following advice on the web and that did not work either and I only overcame it by reinstalling Windows and Office on the PC in question which involves quite a lot of messing about both for me and the client if there is another way.

Running on two machines here where one has the problem and one does not I find they are both running Windows XP SP2, they are both running Office 2003 SP2. Component checker reports on both machines MDAC 2.8 SP1. When I then do a query against that product release I find no mismatched fields except for MSADCO.DLL - both machines report 'Expected version 2.81.1117.0. Both machines have a 140kb file for this file both with the same time and date.

I then looked further on the web and came across I followed the instructions here to the letter to install latest versions of MDAC and Jet (although I think they were on already!). I then followed the repair instructions for XP. This all made no difference.

Has anybody else struggled with this one? Is there another solution? I am reluctant to offer 'reinstall Windows, Office and all your other apps' as a solution although I am confident that will solve the problem? Many thanks

Paul

Did you ever find a resolution to this problem. I am experiencing the same thing.

Thanks

Unfortunately not other than reinstall Windows which I eventually offered to the client and am not sure if he has performed that or not. We do, however, still have a development machine here with the same problem waiting to try any new solutions. Are you suffering with the same problem as well? If you are and eventually discover a solution and would appreciate a posting of details sometime. Thanks
