Hi

I get a message saying "Operating System not found" when trying to boot to Windows. I tried putting Windows XP disk that came with the computer but it won't boot from it. I did change the boot sequence but that didn't help. I created MS-DOS boot disk and that didn't work.
Any other ideas?
Thanks a lot
Maggie

Any history on this (ie, what happened/did you do before you got this message)?

Is it XP you're running? If so, you could try repairing the boot sector - recovery console - and run fixboot. You could also try a repair reinstall - But it would be better to find cause of problem before trying this.

You're also saying it won't boot from a floppy - presumably with floppy as first boot device in the bios? What exactly happens?

Is there a diskette in the disk drive? HAve you checked your boot sequence?

you can download bootdisks from and make sure that you set your boot sequence in dos to boot from floppy first. boot with cdrom support when you have completed the boot process go to the cd-rom and in the i386 directory type winnt that should reinsatll xp as your operating system.

By any chance, is your faulty hd an ibm netvista with a maxtor 40gb hd? if so, call ibm and tell them to get you another hd. I had to send at least 10 hd from an ibm netvista back to them.

Hope this helps
