I'm thinking I'm not the only one with this problem. I have alot of clients that I've been upgrading to LCD displays. But, most people can't read the default resolution that a 17" LCD is designed for. So they run it in 800x600. It looks horrible but the main reason we usually get LCD's is for desktop space. I've changed the desktop settings to "large icons" and "large font" but most text in dialog boxes is still small. Does anyone have a good formula or maybe a desktop management shell/program that would enable people to run these displays in 1280x1024?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,
running in 1280x1024 will make stuff even smaller, not larger, so if using the large icons and large fonts do not help in 800x600 they will help even less in the higher resolution.

Try ( horror of horrors) 640x480 - not as much will fit on the screen, but it will be larger..
( you could also look at the accessibility options to see if any of those help)

If I read your question right, you want it to be 1280x1024, but you want the fonts/icons in Windows to be easier to read.

Right click the desktop, choose the settings tab, click advanced, choose the general tab.

The DPI setting is what you're interested in. I run 96 DPI (Normal) and have no trouble, but many people do... so they go with 120 and it should be great. If that's not enough you can go custom and keep dialing it up.

If 120 is not good enough, and you're people have decent eyes, I would wonder, is 1280x1024 the default resolution on your monitors?

Thanks Skiflyer, thats exactly what I was looking for. I looked so hard that it was to obvious, right in front of me. I knew there had to be _something_.
