I am looking for a file or command to show the version of VMS that is running on one of our machines. I could reboot but still have interest in knowing if there is someway to tell when up and running.

SHOW SYSTEM/NOPROCESS

will do.

If you have an older VMS system, SHOW SYSTEM
and look at the first line,
