Openview Event Correlation Modification applet exceptions

Hi, my company is new to openview and is trying to configure it to correlate events defined by traps from our software. The traps are in pairs (alarm/clear) and we want to try to use the event correlation (pairwise) modification feature to link them. However...when we choose the correlation menu item it launches the web-browser and loads an applet (even on the local OV server)which seem okay at first but as soon as you click modify, the dreaded hourglass appears and the browser hangs because the Java plugin throws a security access exception.
Is there a vital configuration step we are missing? Does anybody have a suggestion?
