Hi

I am trying to installing ScoOpenserver 5.0.5 on a 30 GB IDE disk, the motherboard in the machine is relatively old (about 6 years), with a Pentium 133 chip in it. But when I get to fdisk/divvy in the installation, it says the disk is only 8 GB, not 30 GB as expected.

The BIOS detects the IDE hard drive and says its size is around 8 GB. It looks like SCO is getting its disk parameters from the BIOS, is this correct???
If it is can it be changed ???

Out of interest when I tried to install Windows 2000 on the same machine and disk, it detects the hard disk as 30 GB ??

Thanks

Kelvin

Hi,

you have to upgrade your bios, so your fdisk will recognize your 30Gb disk
I think it's th better way.
And w2k by-pass the bios for recognize hard drive.

No, you can tell the installation the proper parameters for your disk.

as part of your boot string add:

biosgeom=(cylinders,heads,sectors)

I agree with stanhubble.
On the boot prompt try this:
Code:
defbootstr biosgeom=(cylinders,heads,sectors)
Obviously, you have to know the CHS params of your drive, and to disable LBA on your BIOS.

Hope This Help

Ok i don't know you can do this...It's the better solution

P.S. : but mine works too

Not all motherboards and bios's (biosii?) have updates available to them. 5.0.4 and 5.0.5 have an 8GB "IDE" limitation that you have to use the biosgeom parameter to get around.

Thanks for all the replies.

I will try defbootstr biosgeom=(cylinders,heads,sectors)

Thanks again
