Whick Java version do I need for this to work?
When I had jre-8u241 installed all was okay in the client preparation, but when accessing a menu (afer login) I get this error from Java Configuration Management:
"Severe error when activating in Security Management (107)"
(Translated, so might not be excactly the English text).

Do I need version 6 or 7 or another older release of Java RE 8?

It depends which version of 4K it is. What's the hotfix release? Assistant homepage will tell you.

Example, in my RN here for V7 R2.24.0, java 8 was supported up to 1.8.0.152. Windows 10 is also supported. But you're probably on some other version.

Things I know about Java issues:

You have to go into the Java control panel in security and whitelist your Assistant IP address (and probably some other ones, like DLS, or the portal).

Every time you install a new version of Java you have to re-install the certificate because it usually goes in a different directory. I keep InstCert.exe on my PC for ready access.

(probably already done) Make sure Java is not set to cache any applets.

What browser are you using?
Tend to use Internet Explorer as most browsers don't support Java anymore...

I'm using Firefox but had to freeze it forever at version 51. Version 52 broke the ability to admin the 4K. The nice thing about Firefox is that when it gives you the whiny security messages you can say "Allow and Remember" and then you don't have to keep putting up with those whiny messages like every 2 or 3 clicks... It can be a bit whiny during the configuration steps, but I found if it whines you can just back up one step and then keep moving and it goes past it...

All things that was stated in the client preparation was done, like I stated.
So yes, the customer uses Internet Explorer (32 bit version for some reason? Therefor of course also 32 bit Java).
The IP addresses were added in the whitelist in Java Config.
I beleive the Release of OS4k was 1.8.0, but I'm not sure now.

At least what worked was removing all Java software and installing Java version 6 release 45 (jre-6u45-windows-i586.exe).
And again meet all the requirements stated in the Client Preparation.

But I am not so happy with this old version (customer was satisfied with it), so if the issue will come again i'll have a try with 1.8.0.152.

Oh, had I known you were bay back there in the 4K version I could have warned you about needing the older Java. Mine broke back then as soon as I upgraded, and that it why I have taken to keeping the older versions of Java on my machine instead of letting the installer automatically remove them as it prompts you to do. I assume you have older loadware on there as well, and you will also have trouble accessing the STMI card's WBM if you have too new of a Java version. Some of my bad habits now probably originated way back then! :)
