hi guys,

I've uploaded a few pdf, word and excel files to my sharepoint intranet site. Opening pdf files are fine in that the file is opening using the existing web page which is what i want.

As for the word and excel files, depending on which machine i use, some get opened within their respesctive application and other files get opened within the Web page...(which is what i want!)...

...is there some sort of setting for this?? must be right?? please help!!

Hello,

Check the settings:

Open My computer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types. Find the appropriate extension (DOC, XLS etc) Click advanced (or edit), Check if Browse in same windows is checked. Compare the settings on the machines that it works the way you want with the ones that are not working.

Cheers,
Thomas

Hi Thomas...

I've checked all that. I've made sure the 'browse in same window' check box is checked! It still launches the target application... i'm at my wits end!!!

:(

Just a quick update for those of you who are experiencing similar problems...

It seems to be an Excel version 'problem'... with Excel 2000 and 2002, the files are opened within the browser.

I'm currently looking to see if there is an option somewhere in excel 2003...

Hope this helps some of you...

Hello,

I have done some testing with my Office 2003 and I have not yet found out how to be able to open the documents within the browser from SharePoint, unleess I right click on a document and chose to open it in a new window, then I get it displayed within the browser.

But when opening a word document on another website which is not SharePoint the document opens within the browser by just clicking on it. Well I do have to chose to open it since you get the "warning" window.

/Thomas
