Opening PPT through IE6

I am unable to open a ppt through IE6, when I click on the link a separate IE window opens but then it just closes down without opening the file. I can do a Save Target As, save it to my local drive and then open it fine. I can open the file fine from a different physical location so that tells me that the problem is somewhere on the workstation. I have run IE Repair and checked as many options as I could think of. Office XP Pro SP2 with IE6 SP1.
