Hi, I'm trying to open up some ports for MSN
I saw someone post something about this earlier when I did a google search on the issue and this user said to open up these:
IN TCP 6891 - 6900
IN TCP 1863
IN UDP 1863
IN UDP 5190
IN UDP 6901
IN TCP 6901
my question is, how do I open them up through MSN? Because MSN has all ports CLOSED, is there any way of getting around this and opening up some ports? I'm not too familiar with the ports issue.. Oh I have a Microsoft 1000 DSL modem with Windows XP
any help would be GREEEAATTLY appreciated! Thanks

Try this and see if it does not help:

1. Download from Microsoft Update site, Directx 9.0a
2. Donwload from Microsoft Update site, the newest (as of a month ago) version of the Windows Messenger client you are using.
2. On your machine go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components, Network, and click the SSDP Discovery Service and uPnP service. Apply.

Reboot.

It should then work without worrying about manually forwarding ports.

Best.

the software is from msn and it basicly does not allow port forwarding look it up on dsl form reports what you can do is to reflash the firm ware with the smc 740 model that is the best way this will unlock your modem removeing the lousy fire wall and you can brige the modem and use the usb prot for a second computer connection plus if you want to do more on line this will give you more acess i have the netdsl 800 i bought it to play around with it and becuase it was made for msn in order to really use it you have to physically hack into the router but the 1000 is the same as the smc 740 router which i have not knowing a whole lot about modems but this i do know it truely is plug in play whre as i am sure you know this msn you have to load there software and figure out the ip settings good luck
