I have Adobe Acrobat 4.0 on my system, I have also installed Acrobat Reader 6.0. When I double click on a pdf in Internet Explorer it opens the pdf using Acrobat Reader 4.0 instead of Acrobat Reader 6.0

On the desktop the pdf files open in Acrobat Reader 6.0 but in IE they open with Acrobat reader 4.0

Any thoughts

Assuming you are on a PC, then it sounds as though you will have to reset your file associations.

In Windows Explorer, single click (but don't double click) any PDF file. With the PDF highlighted, hold down the Shift key and right click. You should get a menu choice 'Open with'. Select this and you will get a list of programs you can choose to open these type of files. Select Acrobat Reader 6, put a checkmark in the box to 'always use this program to open this type of file', click OK and that's it.

pdf files using explorer open with Reader 6.0 The files I am referring to are links in Internet Explorer. They open with Reader 4.0 instead of Reader 6.0

I know how how to change file associations.
