Is it normal to open a pdf (adobe fil) in MS Word 2000 and have it give the following warning when you just attached the pdf file to the word document yourself.

"You are about to activate an embedded object that may contain viruses or be otherwise harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that it is from a trustworthy source. Do you want to continue?"

Clicking 'Yes' opens the adobe file fine but if you are sending this out to clients they may not want to open it.

Is there a way around this? Appreciate any comments..

Perfectly normal, (depends on yur security settings). If you're worried about how clients may interpret this message, either:

1) Put the file in Word (or some other) format
2) Make it clear that the file is to be opened using acrobat and include instructions for getting acrobat if necessary.

.pdf is a great format for many things, but for distribution via email and viewing on screen, I find it a bit irritating (for the reasons you describe.) The answer in a nutshell is 'use something else!'
