Hi,

We have just upgraded from Access 97 to Access XP (2002) and I have, hopefully, a very simple question.

My users have a shortcut on their desktop to an Access application. In Access 97 they could double click on this & openup multiple copies of the database, but now with Access XP once you double click a second time it just maximises the first database from the taskbar.

Does anyone know if their is a simple command line option of if their is a particular key stroke to open up another session of the same database?

Any help is greatly appreciated as always.

Chris

I think MickeySoft intentionally did this due to popular demand. Developers were getting really peeved when their users were opening up multiple copies of the same database and, usually, entering duplicates or generally getting into a tangle. It is still possible to open up multiple copies but now you have to open Access first and then open the database. Simply double-clicking the icon in the desktop or the filename in Explorer will only maximise the (already open) database. Is there some reason why you want to open multiple copies anyway, or are you just curious?
Cheers.

Thanks for the response Edski.

The main reason for the request is that users at our call centre are constantly working on 2 or more queries at the same time - so it is really to speed up their day to day work.

They are only using the application to 'view only' from various different datasources so for us duplicate records would not be an issue.

Do you know if they have a run-time version of access would it still handle it the same?

Cheers,

Chris

Dear Chris,

Well, here might be a simple work around.
This assumes that you have a Frontend(program code) and Backend(database) setup. The FrontEnd would link to the backend database.

Just make several copies of the Frontend, and rename each.
Now, create a shortcut to each copy.

Now, clicking on each shortcut will open a different version because access will think it is a different database.

Note: Not a perfect solution, but it should work.

Hope This Helps,
Hap
