opening MS word files with tables in a mac with Quark

I have many large files in ms word 2000 in table format. my publisher can not open them with his Quark program on his mac. and keep the table format. the numbers all run together when converted into any other database or excel format. I can convert them to ms word for mac. and keep the table format however, but he still says he has a problem. what can I do to make my data usable so he will not lose the table-wrap-around-format within each column/row. thanks for any help.

I'm a brand new user (Quark) and I have the same problem with a couple of "huge" tables from Word that I inserted into Quark. Over the next few days, I'm going to try to see if I can solve it. I've got a short training session with a pro in three days, so, if I don't have it solved by then, I'm sure I'll have an answer by the end of that day. Hopefully, though, you'll get a response from someone that actually knows what they are talking about. Diana

You could make a pdf of the tables then insert them into Quark as images. You might need the pdf filter xtension to do this.

Sharkboots brings up a good point. Quickest way to go.

You can also (in word) select the table and use convert table to text using tabs for the columns. Then resave the document as text only (.txt extension) and import that to Quark - You will have to "reformat" but at least will be in a more "table-like" (hence tabular) structure. Then just select the imported text and format the tabs appropriately. Do look for bad line breaks - not sure how much text is in each column, but I've had to do this on a number of course guides for clients. At least it gives you something to go on.

Thanks everyone. I will be waiting for diana's report. I have tried the table converting to text. this sends words and numbers all over the page and is mostly unusable. the PDA file may be the way to go. I dont have the adobe program but may have access to a computer with it. the job at hand is large about 300 files and 23MB so any smooth way of formating is welcomed.
