Oke... where to start. I have a GIF. I open the GIF. I try to open GIF #2 as a layer. GIMP crashes with:
(script-fu:8662): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: script-fu: wire_read(): error
Segmentation fault
I try to do it the other way around. The colours on the second layer (GIF #1) are really messed up. I remove the layer. I set the colour mode to RGB. I try again. GIMP crashes with above error.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get around this?

Thanks in advance,
Twey

I would suggest opening the second gif as a seperate image, and ctl+a to select it, and ctl+c to copy. Move to gif #1 and ctl+v to paste and on the layers window select new and it will automatically make that pasted image a new layer.

If this is not what you are talking about, I am not sure I understand.

I did notice that you set the color mode to RGB, but gifs are by nature/definition limited to 256 indexed colors.
