Hi everyone,

I have just upgraded my Indesign 2.02 to Indesign CS2 but when I try to open the files I had created in the older version, Indesign CS2 crashes. It goes through the motion of "converting the files" but crashes before its complete. I thought maybe it was a corrupt file but I tried opening other files i created in 2.02 and have had the same problem. I created a file in CS2 and opened it no problem. Has this happened to anyone else. I would appreciate any help to fix this. thanks!

Every time I hear of a technical difficulty with any Adobe app - like crashing, I always suggest trashing Preferences for that app. If nothing else, it can't hurt. I don't know how installing teh upgrade effects prefs, but I do know that trashing prefs before installing a new version, or even reinstalling, of an Adobe app usually helps stability.

One other thing that helps stability is to disable any antivirus, etc software before installing. This is usually the best thing to do when installing any program - from a legitimate vendor.

If you're using OSX, you could also have a corrupted font cash - the program crashing can couse this. It's an easy fix.

So try quitting ID, and trash yur prefs. In OSX it's user/library/preferences/com.adobe.InDesign.plist. I don't know where prefs are in Windows.

To clear corrupted font caches in OSX, go to Find in finder. Use "Contains" as the search parameter and search for "adobefnt". You'll get results like "adobe07fnt.lst" and/or "adobefnt.lst". Trash everything with the ".lst" extension. Relaunch ID and see how things work. I don't believ that Windows uses font caches so, if on Windows, there's a possibility that teh font could be damaged. In both Windows and OSX, ID requires certain fonts for things like palettes, etc. If one is damaged, bad things cn happen.
